Eight questions, one platform

GAINS® measures student performance on every curriculum-based assessment and reports the results in a form leaders and teachers can act on.

01 · Where do we stand?

A school-wide view of performance

Results for every subject and grade are available in one place and update after each assessment, so school leaders and administrators always know where the school stands.

  • Built for principals, administrators and governing boards
  • Results by subject, grade and standard
  • Standards below target are clearly identified

02 · Are students growing?

Progress throughout the school year

Each student’s mastery of every standard is tracked throughout the year, so growth and decline are visible well before the state test.

  • Red, amber, and green indicate students who are below, approaching, and on target
  • Grouped by teacher and class

03 · Where are the gaps?

Curriculum gaps, school-wide

04 · What do we teach next?

A forward view for planning

GAINS flags every standard that has fallen below target this year, chapter by chapter, so teachers plan the coming units around where students struggled.

  • Standards flagged for focus
  • Each school can set its own threshold

05 · What do we reteach?

Reteaching priorities after each assessment

After each assessment, teachers can see which questions students missed, which incorrect answers they chose, and which standards are at target, approaching target, or in need of attention.

  • Every question, with the wrong answers students chose
  • Standards sorted into at target, approaching and needs attention

06 · Who needs help?

Each student’s response to every question

A color-coded grid of each student’s answer to every question shows which students need small-group support and on which questions.

  • One row per student, one column per question
  • The class score on every question at the bottom

07 · How are we trending? New

Month over month, year over year

The monthly report puts this year’s results next to the same point last year, by grade, subject and strand, color-coded against the PM3 score needed to meet the standard, so leaders and boards can see whether the school is ahead of last year.

08 · How well do our assessments align with PM3? New

Curriculum assessments checked against PM3

PM3, the end-of-year state exam, decides a school’s grade. GAINS compares PM3 results with curriculum assessment results for each standard. Most standards line up. Where PM3 comes in well below the curriculum assessments, GAINS flags it.

A large gap on a standard indicates that the school should review how that standard is taught and assessed.
